Economic Buzz: US Weekly Jobless Claims Inch Lower

US Labor Department on Thursday showed initial jobless claims edged down to 218,000, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous weeks unrevised level of 222,000, an unexpected decrease in first-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits in the week ended June 9th. The less volatile four-week moving average also dipped to 224,250, a decrease of 1,250 from the previous weeks unrevised average of 225,500.
